NOTE-WORTHY: Prayer breakfasts useless
published: Monday | January 21, 2008

Prayer breakfasts useless

I really think it is time for our leaders to discontinue these annual prayer breakfasts. The country is certainly not benefiting from them. Furthermore, what are they really praying for?

And, are their prayers being answered? The funds that are being used to put on these lavish feasts should be used to feed the street children and the elderly who are really in need of food.

It is time that our so-called leaders stop using these functions to feed themselves while the people are starving, and address the real problems that people are facing at this time.

Montego Bay sidewalks

As a Jamaican who has stayed in Montego Bay quite often over the years, I have spent time at some of the best hotels in the parish from Half Moon to the Ritz Carlton. My one complaint over the years has been the quality of the infrastructure.

For example, we need world-class sidewalks so people can get out and walk spending money with the small shops and restaurants. But if they have to tread through weeds and small trees then they will not. If we want to get people who will spend money to come, then give them what they are used to.

Revolution in energy

We need a revolution in energy now if we are to meet our demands for the future. We just cannot be totally dependent on fossil fuels. Solar energy is cheap, clean and can be used with much ease, with sunlight available all year we should be taking a bold step. Much could be sustained and saved by using solar energy. Let's start a revolution in using the sun now.

Calling Waulgrove

I am a past student of Waulgrove College (yr. '67) living in the United States. I have posted messages on the Ackee website trying to find out if Waulgrove College (of Avon Park Crescent in '67) still exists and also trying to make contact with past students. I just read a sports article concerning an upcoming netball competition between Waulgrovians and Tivoli Gardens.

I would like to know if the Waulgrovians are from my alma mater, i.e, Waulgrove College. If this team represents Waulgrove College, I would like to get the address, phone number and any other info about the school to make contact. I would like to hear from past students of Waulgrove College years 1966-70 directly or from anyone knowing of or having info on past students.
