Prayer Breakfast falls short on unity
published: Friday | January 18, 2008

At least one person in the audience at yesterday's National Leadership Prayer Breakfast believes the revered annual event should have by now fostered greater unity.

Making it clear that she was far from 'knocking' the annual event, 'Sister Thomas', the name by which she asked to be called, is of the view that there should have been a greater sense of unity in the island, particularly at the governmental level.

Spiritual realm

"It is good that we are trying to get unity among the leaders, and that we have been trying to do this with the prayer breakfast for over 20 years, but we still need to get deeper in the spiritual realm," said the elderly woman, who was decked out in a beige hat and yellow dress.

"We need to get to the point where we start obeying 2 Chronicles 7: 14, 'If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.' That is when we will see true unity."

Midway through the function at that point, the 73-year-old woman swiftly rocked to her left, started hopping on one leg and started speaking in tongues.

After regaining her composure, she said the event should get the country more 'in tune with' the spiritual realm, allowing the nation to receive 'good' gifts and divine unity from the realms of glory.
