SPORTING CENTRAL Academy registered an impressive 3-0 victory over Boys' Town in their Cash Plus Premier League game at Brancourt yesterday. With assistant coach Christopher Dawes promoted to head coach of the Sporting Central team, they were in top form throughout the game.
Sean Coleman dribbled past Boys' Town custodian Philmore Crumbie in the 38th minute after he received a defence-splitting, through pass from Tennyson Smith.
In the second half, Sporting Central maintained possession of the ball for most of the period. Hugan Grey increased Sporting Central's lead in the 51st minute when skilful midfielder Tennyson Smith pushed a ball to Grey at the edge of the 18-yard box and, after dismissing goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie, he fired a cracker into the back of the net.
Superb passes
After making several superb passes in the midfield, Smith got on the scoresheet in the 77th minute when he received a ball in Boys' Town's goal area and dribbled and kicked a hard shot past Crumbie.
Dawes said: "It was a good game and we needed the win. You know in a league format you need to win the games at home and we were not doing that enough.
"We are very inconsistent so this win will be very good for us."
Blackout halts late games
LAST NIGHT'S islandwide power cut brought yesterday's two late evening Cash Plus Premier League games to premature ends.
At the Tony Spaulding Complex, Arnett Gardens had just clawed their way back to a 1-1 scoreline against surging newcomers St. Georges, while the game at Jarrett Park between Seba United and August Town was only 10 minutes in when the lights went out. The Jamaica Football Federation Competitions Committee is expected to reschedule both games.
