VILLAGE UNITED remain at the bottom of the standings in the Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) as they were thoroughly outclassed 2-0 by Portmore United in yesterday's match at Ferdie Neita Park.
Since the start of the CPPL in September 2007, Village United have missed numerous goalscoring opportunities and are struggling at the bottom of the league.
Yesterday's dismal performance was no different as Portmore United, with a second-minute goal from Steven Morrisey, set the pace for a game that saw Village buckling under intense pressure from the get-go.
Fabian Davis and Rudolph Austin also led the charge for Portmore United in the first half, dominating the midfield and making it difficult for Village United to push forward.
Still no match
In the second half, Portmore United's performance dwindled significantly but Village were still unable to match their pace, even after substitutions were made in the 59th, 76th and 85th minutes.
Portmore, who have now moved to 31 points, were able to secure a second goal when Morrisey landed a last-minute goal in the 90th minute.
With only two weeks on the job, newly appointed coach of Village United and former national scoring ace Paul 'Tegat' Davis is confident that his team will rise from the abyss that they have found themselves in. "The team needs a lot of improvement. Their morale was down so we have to prepare them mentally, as they are not used to being at the bottom of the table," Davis said.
He added: "We plan to shift around the players and use more of the younger players to increase and improve the energy on the team."
Linval Dixon, the former Reggae Boyz defender and coach of Portmore United, said his team played a good game, despite losing momentum in the second half.
"It feels good to return to winning ways. The team played well and we are looking forward to our next encounter," Dixon said.
