Sarwan planning comeback
published: Thursday | January 10, 2008

Sarwan

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

GUYANA AND West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan is targeting the Sri Lanka and Australia tours of the Caribbean later this year for his international comeback.

The right-hander returned with a bang from injury, scoring 63 and 105 not out for Guyana in their opening Carib Beer Cup match against Trinidad and Tobago at the Queen's Park Oval. Guyana, despite his heroics, fell to the hosts by nine wickets.

Injury

"I will be hoping that by the time the Australian and Sri Lankan series come around later in the season, I will be fit and ready for action," the 27-year-old told CMC Sports Monday.

"I am disappointed that I cannot compete at the top level presently because of the injury. At that level the intensity is high and hence the ankle would be under a lot of pressure."

Sarwan said it was great to be back in the middle and more importantly among the runs.

"I enjoyed batting against T&T and getting the century in the second innings was particularly pleasing," he noted.

"I was disappointed that we lost the match and will be looking to rebound against Barbados this coming weekend over there."

Sarwan disclosed that he felt a degree of discomfort in his ankle, which he injured during the first round of the KFC Cup regional series in Guyana last November.

Discomfort

"During the innings I felt some discomfort when I turned and while running and I still need to do work on the injury," he said.

"On mornings, during the lunch break and at tea time the ankle stiffened and this caused some concerns."

He said he was fortunate physiotherapist Beverly Nelson was travelling with the Guyana team and he had been receiving treatment and would continue to do so during the regional series.
