Dainty fairy-folk complemented the themed ambience at French Connection Midnight Magic, New Year's Eve, at the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, New Kingston. - Photos by Ricardo Makyn/Staff Photographer

IT WAS truly 'Midnight Magic' at French Connection last Monday night as the fireworks went off in a dazzling display over the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, New Kingston.

Equipped with an Eiffel tower, a black and silver-themed decor and 'French maids' serving patrons, French Connection made sure patrons welcomed the new year with style. When The Gleaner arrived at the venue, scores of persons were outside waiting to get in. With no tickets sold at the gate, only those who had prepared themselves for the party could get in.

Shiny, spiffy Audis on display greeted those entering the venue and patrons were then ushered on to a black runway where dainty ladies in fairy-like costumes, replete with white wings danced to Enya.

From there, the patrons entered a huge tent with large red couches where some persons were busy talking with friends and exchanging new year greetings.

While Arif Cooper was busy creating an oldies reggae vibe, most persons were getting their money's worth of food and alcohol. Long lines could be seen at the various food booths as patrons dined on French, sushi and other delectable delights. Also available were desserts such as Haagen Daz ice cream, cakes and chocolate fondue courtesy of Chocolate Dreams.

By 1:00 a.m., the vibe really picked up as Dr. Dre and Jazzy T from Renaissance Disco took over. Renaissance made an impression with pop music as Britney Spears cried out Gimme More, followed by Nelly Furtado's Promiscuous Girl and Kanye West's Stronger.

The rap continued with hits from Chris Brown and T-Pain. The pace soon changed with Soca as the women got wild on the huge dance floor.

Fashion and image were soon abandoned as the tempo climbed. The ladies kicked off their stilettos as the new dancehall hits floored the crowd. Renaissance summoned who they said were 'horny women', made them jam to Beenie's Back It Up, walk out to Matterhorn's Goodas Fi Dem and get low for Kartel Wine Pon Me.

By 4:00 a.m., the party was still in full swing. Patrons were not ready to go home as Alrick and Boyd took over the wheels of steel with some old dancehall tunes from Lady Saw and others. It was only after 4:30 a.m. that persons slowly began filing out, while others still had plenty of energy as they moved to some disco tunes.

Staggering out of the venue, it was obvious that the blissful revellers had fun ringing in 2008.

This couple like many others danced the night away.
