No goal, little cheers at STETHS
published: Monday | December 31, 2007

Mandeville:

There were no goals and little to cheer about in the Cash Plus Premier League match at St. Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) as Reno and Sporting Central shared points in a 0-0 effort yesterday.

Both teams featured in a seven-goal thriller at Prison Oval in the first round but expectations for another exciting contest on a good surface never materialised. There was even possession and a general flow to the game but the chances for actual goals were very few at either end.

Naturally, both coaches were disappointed.

For ninth-place Sporting Central which advanced to 16 points, 12 behind leaders Portmore United, Kevin Williams told The Gleaner: "The game was not something I was satisfied with, it was very flat and I am very disappointed. We have the quality and the technical ability but we are just not getting the simple things right."

He may have been referring to two chances created in either half, when Oneike Ford could have used his composed skill rather than aggression.

Could have done better

For Reno, which sit in mid-table among the 12 teams, the passage of play, especially in the latter part of the second half, belonged to them, and with Sporting's goalkeeper Leighton Murray shaky at times, they could have done much better with several dangerous crosses in the six-yard area. However, striker Recardo Scott had little help and Reno's performance up front continues to reflect the absence of injured striker Kirk Wright.

"We are disappointed that we couldn't get three points, especially against a team we are ahead of," said Wendell Downswell, whose team inched up to 17 points. "This means we have to try and recover those two points on the road."

However, a big challenge for them looms on Thursday when Waterhouse visit. A similar scenario faces Sporting Central when they next host Harbour View.
