THE JAMAICA Defence Force (JDF) is advising the public to expect the presence of soldiers in Kingston and St. Catherine as it conducts internal security training throughout this week.
The training, which began this past Saturday, will take place in Constant Spring and Norbrook in Kingston, and in Portmore, Fort Rocky and the Caymanas Estate in St. Catherine, as well as adjoining communities until Saturday, January 5.
"The JDF is advising residents not to be alarmed by the presence of the soldiers on the roads and in their communities as the training exercises will not involve any live fire and will pose no danger," the military said in a release. "Residents may hear loud bangs caused by the pyrotechnics used in the training drills."
The public is being warned, however, that live firing will take place on the Green Bay Range in St. Catherine on Wednesday and, therefore, Green Bay Range will, on that day, be unsafe to members of the public, livestock and low-flying aircraft.
Members of the public, who may have concerns about the presence of the troops in their area, are encouraged to telephone the JDF's headquarters at 960-8776 or 960-7361.
