About those who passed on
published: Monday | December 31, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Reading the title 'They left us in 2007' in The Gleaner made me think that some lives are more important than some. With more than 1,500 deaths in Jamaica by the hands of criminals, plus natural causes, The Gleaner wrote about only 20 people.

In a time like this in Jamaica when people are dropping like flies, I would think this is not the time to write about the passing of few so-called important people. The paper even mentioned a politician who drove carelessly and killed himself and other people. Am I missing something here?

How about a lonely mother or father who work honestly to bring up her/his children and died by the gun? It is time to share the page in this newspaper fairly and give value to other people's lives. Aren't they important to our country like the ones this paper mentioned?

I am, etc.,
