Try to avoid mental slavery
published: Monday | December 31, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I am happy to respond to the letter 'Happy Holidays' vs 'Merry Christmas' published on Saturday December 29. Political correctness is a threat to worldwide civilizations. Some Black people also appear to have an identity crisis. It is very unfortunate that we only feel validated when emulating the white man.

The late reggae superstar, the Honourable Robert Nesta Marley, once said that "We must liberate ourselves from mental slavery". Until we do that, we will always look to the white man to set the standard on what is or is not normal or acceptable.

Let us all refrain from yielding to outside influences. Our culture, customs, values, norms, and our way of life must be preserved for generations to come. Let us not sell out these precious treasures to the pagans.

I am, etc.,
