Interior decorating for the home
published: Sunday | December 30, 2007

Where furniture is concerned, your primary need is comfort.

The art of interior decorating is to make a room aesthetically appealing, attractive and functional. Creating a theme is the first objective of the individual who undertake this task. Even though each room will have its own design it is important to maintain one theme throughout the entire house since all the rooms are under one roof.

Decorating your home should express your personality and taste, therefore select colours and designs that reflect your personal style. However, before making any final decision, there are four things to take into consideration - colour, texture, furniture and lighting.

Colour: Is used in an interior to boldly or quietly bring life to a room. It should be selected based on the mood you wish to create and the effect it has on the occupant of the room. Colours also affect the size of a room; it can give the appearance of a larger or smaller room an higher or lower ceiling.

Texture: This is an essential component in the decoration of an interior, different textures can be used to create a décor in an interior whether rough or smooth. The contrast and the surface of the materials used will give the room a lift and enhance your home.

Lighting is important too.

Furniture: The primary need is to provide comfort. Their colour, shape and size add to the décor of the room. Careful consideration must be given to the placement of furniture. Distribute the different pieces throughout the room to maintain balance.

Lighting: Natural lighting should be encouraged in abundance in any interior, man-made light should be a secondary choice. Add white lights in the areas meant for reading and performing tasks. Yellow lights are best in rooms with lots of activities and blue lights are recommended for bedrooms.

Creating a theme is the first objective.

You spend a lot of time in your homes; it is therefore important to create an atmosphere for yourself and your family that will impact your lives. Decorate your home to encourage relaxation and family times. This will create positive attitudes and attributes.

The décor of your home should be the way you and your family want it to be, and not to impress anyone else since you are the ones who will be living there for a good while.
