Another home win for Georges
published: Friday | December 21, 2007

Gareth Davis, Gleaner Writer

A GOAL in each half allowed St Georges to continue their dominance at home - defeating Harbour View 2-0 at Lynch Park in Buff Bay, Portland, on Wednesday.

The goals were scored by Denroy Dennis and Damion Harwood in the 32nd and 90th minutes, respectively, in an evenly-contested game in front of a fair-size crowd.

It was Harbour View who started aggressively through Keith Bryan and Kemar Petrekin, but stout defending by Errol Stevens, Bryan Banton and Dwayne Holmes kept them at bay.

St Georges eventually came into their own and against the run of play went ahead in the 32nd minute after Kanute Harrison made a through pass to Dennis, who skillfully collected and beat Dwayne Miller in the Harbour View goal.

In the second half, Harbour View immediately were on the attack through their captain Lovel Palmer, Loxley Palmer and Jermaine Taylor, but their attacks were again foiled by good defending.

With time running out, St. Georges again found the back of the Harbour View net after defender Gairy Banton broke up a Harbour View attack and found the unmarked Harwood, who calmly fired by the goalkeeper.

Winning coach Donovan Duckie was elated at the victory and praised his team.

"We lost out on the end-of-round final," Duckie said. "Harbour View are a talented team but we were prepared as we expected that they would be coming at us from the start. This is a good start for us for the first game of this second round and I expect my team to do well in this round," he said.

His opposite number, Lenworth Hyde, said that his team had glorious opportunities in the first half but failed to score.

"Georges converted their opportunities and proved that they wanted this win," Hyde said.
