EAST LONDON, South Africa (Reuters):
Former Test batsman Justin Ontong plundered a century for South Africa A to help them to a big lead over the West Indies on the second day of their four-day tour match yesterday.
Ontong scored 109 not out and South Africa A ended the day on 351 for seven, already 158 runs ahead in the first innings.
The 27-year-old Ontong, who made his Test debut against Australia in Sydney in 2002 as a late replacement for Jacques Rudolph, faced 130 deliveries, hitting 11 fours and two sixes.
Ontong was the chief rungetter in a team that treated the West Indian bowlers with disdain but there were also half centuries by Morne van Wyk (89), Neil McKenzie (54) and JP Duminy (62).
McKenzie batted with authority, hitting 10 fours in his 90-ball innings.
Blustery day
Dwayne Bravo, captaining the West Indians in this match, was the main wicket-taker, toiling manfully on a blustery day to take three for 43.
Fidel Edwards took two for 39 in 19 overs and bowled Van Wyk shortly after the lunch break when he surprised him with a fast yorker.
The West Indians had posted an insufficient first innings score of 193 after choosing to bat first on Wednesday.
