Aunt May dies just shy of 111th birthday
published: Friday | December 21, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE OLDEST woman in Jamaica, and possibly the world, died on Monday, December 17, eight days shy of her 111th birthday on Christmas Day. Aunt May, as she was known, passed away for yet-to-be discovered reasons on Monday. I am her great-grandchild and I feel I need to utilise this medium to place light on her achievements as a great matriarch and a person of great moral and physical strength. The Watson, Jackson, Meggie and Tyrell family mourn the death of this great matriarch.

Family members, spread abroad in England, Canada, United States, Germany and Israel, will be converging on Jamaica to celebrate her life. Mr. Editor, it would be an honour if you could herald Aunt May's life by posting this letter to the people of Jamaica. I urge all to put God first and your years will be long upon the land. Merry Christmas!

I am, etc.,
