In 1992, Joan Duncan started a company that is today the third largest financial institution in Jamaica. Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB), now in its 15th year, as of November 6, has achieved many milestones and continues strongly on its path of...

After 15 years, Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) has grown beyond the expectation of Executive Director of Culture and Leadership Development Donna Duncan-Scott. "We had the vision for it to be Caribbean but didn't expect it to be the region's third largest financial institution," she told Flair as the company continues to celebrate this milestone.

As is customary the formative stages of a company present some rough times but they were never deterred. "When something is your passion and your dream, there is just that energy there so it didn't seem hard, even though it was. There were many sleepless nights and other things that come with growth (of the company) that you didn't foresee. You have to reinvent yourself at times; you have to be willing to learn, listen, try new things and grow personally," she said.

There were also those who thought it couldn't be done because it would not be a service that would be needed and it just wouldn't work. Fortunately, Duncan-Scott didn't focus on the critics.

Now that they have realised the dream, they can have even bigger ones. "The vision for 2025 is for us to be recognised as the leading company in client care." So far, the hard work has paid off and her most rewarding moments have been to see "... the growth of individuals as they come into their own at JMMB. Persons who have gone through the company who were desperate, left as women owning their own. Powerful. Most persons who leave have started their own company. That is Joan Duncan's dream realised".
