NOTE-WORTHY: Positive thinking
published: Friday | November 23, 2007

Positive thinking

I heard in the future Portmore will have a market and hospital, that is very good. Since Kingston is the capital of Kingston, Spanish Town should be the capital for Portmore, it is one parish. What about Port Royal the little piece of historic soil. The people in Port Royal are dying for it to be restored to its former glory. We should never forget a starting point of our history.

The motto of Jamaica, land we love, should be 'Country before self'. You can't take out and not put in. If you put a pot on fire and only throw in water and no food, the water will dry out and the pot burns up, the house will catch fire. The same thing could happen to make Parliament catch fire. Positive thinking is the way to go.

What Michael did

I would like to suggest to our Prime Minister that he could emulate what the late Michael Manley did when he was beset by the problems caused by the belief that we were going communist and the resultant fallout in the economy. He started the Agricultural Marketing Corporation where Jamaicans were able to secure foodstuff, meat, etc. at greatly reduced prices. This decision helped our farmers as they were able to find a market through the Government for their produce. In these hard times, something like this is required from the Govern-ment to ease the financial woes of the majority of the people of this country. I sincerely hope that he will give this matter a great deal of thought and that he will be able to formalise a strategy to help us all in these most trying times.

Moravian Bishop

Congratulations Rev. Stanley Clarke on your new appointment as Moravian Church Bishop. I have known you for several years. You once served at the Nazareth Moravian Church in Maidstone, Manchester. You are a man of good character, integrity and of high moral standards. I'm very proud of you.

Water shortage

I am a resident of Mount Ogle, Lawrence Tavern, St. Andrew, and from the passing of Hurricane Ivan, yes Ivan, we have been having the most severe water problem. Myself and other persons have to be paying $500-$600 per week to persons with a car to transport water; and the roads are in a mess.

Transportation is also a problem as bus fares are unregulated and the available buses seem to have no proper supervision. There are only about three JUTC buses and they are unreliable. I am begging the relevant authorities to look into this matter because we are suffering. I am paying $6,000 per month for bus fare. As for the NWC, I would like to know if there is no water running through our pipes how they generate a bill, because we are still paying water bill every month, for a service that is non-existent.
