Thursday talk - Hottest topics on the cocktail circuit
published: Thursday | November 22, 2007

Searching for a role

1. Some are not too happy with 'the entourage', as they say it is loaded with some questionable players. Meanwhile, the lady is still trying to find herself a role!

'Powers' have rested

2. Seems like the campaign to unseat the learned one is now over, as the 'powers that be' have signalled that they are not interested in changing that course. This is just as well, as people were growing awfully tired of the deluge of stories being circulated.

Exalted occupant

3. Some residents of a certain upscale community are more than a little peeved that some of the 'new people' always seem to be bearing down on them, sirens blaring, while the point vehicle boisterously clears a path for the exalted occupant in the highly tinted SUV to follow.

Big ego fellow

4. The elevation of the bitter one recently, albeit to a minor body, have some hoping he will be a little less caustic when it comes to his former colleagues. They say the bitterness started when they opted to follow the protocol and ignore his sense of entitlement that he expected would have landed him in the high-profile post. Some say, "His monumental ego far outstrips his actual abilities."

Hong Kong connection

5. All is now well with the couple experiencing marital difficulties with their offspring as the mother's side of the family actually had a Hong Kong connection.

Picking a fight

6. They walk, talk, and party together. Those who know them know better than to pick a fight with them on their own turf.

Which is correct?

7. There are two sides to this story, naturally. One is that it's all about the settling of old bad political blood. The other is that there was some chicanery in the making with some quid pro quo undertaking that would see the successor steering things his way.

'This too shall ...'

8. What does a poor wife do when she suspects her husband of infidelity? Have him trailed to the love nest and have his SUV vandalised? Her solution - No, no police! Think of the children! Think of the scandal. Oh, the neighbours and our friends! Let us just stick together as a family, "as honey, this too shall pass", and so it has!

What of the appointment?

9. What has happened to the much vaunted appointment, has it been placed on hold indefinitely?
