Senator Dorothy Lightbourne - File
President of the Advocates Association, George Soutar, said Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne, has always acted in a principled manner in discharging her responsibilities to the legal profession.
Soutar made the comment at a function hosted by the association at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel to honour her on her recent appointment as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
He said also that Senator Lightbourne was well-known as a supporter of the single practitioner and small firms.
Since her ascension, Senator Lightbourne has been embroiled in controversy over the Jamaica Labour Party's non-acceptance of Professor Stephen Vasciannie as the Public Service Commission's choice for Solicitor-General.
Chief Justice Zaila McCalla and president of the Court of Appeal, Seymour Panton, also congratu-lated Senator Lightbourne.
The Attorney-General thanked the association for hosting the function. She said she would strive to address the many issues that affected the administration of justice, and in particular the problems affecting the smooth running of the courts.
