Arthur Green, Gleaner WriterSt. Thomas:
It is 'as you were' for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the upcoming local government elections for the six electoral divisions in Western St. Thomas where all the incumbents are again facing the polls.
Mayor Joan Spencer was nominated to contest the Seaforth division and is being challenged by Shirley Douglas, a teacher/businesswoman, while Maud Turgott of Yallahs, is going up against the PNP' Anderson.
Llandewey's Gary-Lee Henry of the JLP, will be challenged by the PNP's Junior Bolson, while businessman, Lenworth Rawl of Trinityville will go up against the man he defeated in 2003, Clive Lawman.
Trade unionist Harold Brown is being challenged by businesswoman Madgrine Norris in White Horses, and the JLP's Devril Dwyer of Cedar Valley will go head-to-head with the PNP's Norris Crisdale.
As the nomination process picked up steam yesterday, throngs of party faithfuls milled around focal points and positioned themselves for the preliminaries.
The police, which had a very visible presence did not report any unusual incident.
All 12 candidates expressed confidence and vowed to win the council seat they are contesting.
