Buchanan demands apology for Golding's 'vulgar outburst'
published: Tuesday | November 20, 2007

Golding

General Secretary of the People's National Party (PNP), Donald Buchanan, has demanded an immediate apology from Prime Minister Bruce Golding for what he said was his "vulgar outburst" against Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and the PNP.

The PNP has indicated that it will not cooperate with the Government on national issues if the leader of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) continues to speak out of "both sides of his mouth".

In fact, the PNP has backed out of the Vale Royal talks.

Mr. Golding, speaking at the JLP's 64th annual conference at the National Arena on Sunday, said the PNP was suffering from "intellectual depravity" and that "termites have infested their brains".

People's National Party president, Portia Simpson Miller talks with party general secretary, Donald Buchanan during a national executive council meeting in this file photo.

Condemning Mr. Golding's utterances, Mr. Buchanan said: "The Prime Minister has confirmed his inability to understand, what the razor-thin parliamentary margin means for the smooth running of the country."

The PNP general secretary said since assuming office, the Prime Minister has consistently "spoken out of both sides of his mouth, on the one hand indicating an interest in working closely with the Opposition, especially on sensitive matters, but, on the other hand never missing an opportunity to insult, character assassinate or attempt to tear down."
