Smith stands firm - PNP lambastes Security Minister who threatens to expose councillor
Minister of National Security Derrick Smith is sticking to his statement made in Tivoli Gardens Wednesday night, when he accused members of the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) of "robbing the country'" when that party formed the government.

Electoral Office of Jamaica ready for local government polls

The police and election-day workers will go to the polls on November 29.This is six days before the rest of the population votes in the local government election on December 5. Prime Minister Bruce Golding announced the local government election on Wednesday, at a campaign rally in west Kingston. Nomination Day is November 19.

Father witnesses son's fatal accident

Harold Theo Chambers, son of motivational speaker and president of the Rotary Club of Lucea, Theo Chambers, and Christopher Clarke perished in a fire as a result of a motor vehicle crash along the Little London main road in Westmoreland Thursday night.

Prime Minister wants review of libel law

Prime Minister Bruce Golding has directed an 12-member committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the Libel and Slander Act. At a meeting with the committee at Jamaica House, Mr. Golding reiterated that the legislation should be updated to better allow the press greater freedom to present information that is important to the public.

Schools get ready to refund tuition fees

Some schools are now in the process of preparing cheques to repay parents who paid tuition fees in September, honouring a commitment made by the Government that parents who paid fees would be reimbursed.
