Problems with C&W
published: Saturday | November 10, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

What does one have to do to get rid of Cable & Wireless (C&W)?

After receiving a bill on August 15, they cut me off on August 17 for non-payment. I wrote to their CEO/president on August 18 cancelling any contract and requiring them to remove their wires and equipment by August 30 or my charge for rental of space for storing their equipment would he $100 per day.

I received no reply or action and the CEO/president was sacked. I sent copies to the new CEO/president (and this was copied by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) to them) but again, received no reply or action.

bill for rental

I was sent a bill for $3,000 for 30 days' rental in September. Still the phone remains.

There is a history of this:

1. C&W changed the phone numbers in this area.

2. They then proceed to charge us for this privilege.

3. In addition, as soon as the line was changed, I received many calls telling me that I had phoned. I had not. I reported these by phone and registered letter to C&W (the letter was returned as no one at C&W would sign for it!). C&W then charged me for these calls - $4,500.

4. After the intervention of the OUR, my line was restored (but I was charged for this) and was sent a partial bill for November 6. I sent another registered letter which was also returned as no one would sign for it.

I have never received any apology or explanation. Hence, my wish to disconnect. Why don't they have the professionalism (let alone names) to respond?

I am, etc.,
