GEORGIA COUNTRY Club, under the skilled and experienced leadership of captain Raymond Schnoor, convincingly beat the visiting Racquet-eers tennis team from Kingston in a hard-fought match held at Georgia, Trelawny, on Saturday.

Racquet-eers captain Norman Marshall commented initially that the results were "too close to concede", but was later persuaded to be more sporting. Umpire Collin Gallant performed professionally.

The annual tennis match took place on Georgia's rather bumpy three grasscourts - the last remaining grasscourts in Jamaica - amid intermittent strong rain storms.

The Georgia team members included Schnoor, David Muschett, James Ransome, Martin and Andrew Hopwood, Andrew Todd, Paddy Masterton, Christian Ghisays, Dimps Gallant, Barbara Henriques, Alec Henderson and Klaes Secher, who was visiting especially from Canada for the tournament.

The defeated Racquet-eers were Rosie Thwaites, Tissie Chan, Valerie and Norman Marshall, Monica Ladd, Everton Morgan, Oliver Clarke and Richard Gomes supported by Andrew Grant and William Tatham. The last two, ranked players, defected from the Georgia team at the last moment when presented with Racquet-eers tennis shirts.
