Way clear for parish council elections
published: Wednesday | October 31, 2007

Cabinet has given the Prime Minister the green light to advise Governor-General Professor Kenneth Hall of "an appropriate date for the holding of local government elections", due by December 31 this year.

Karl Samuda, Minister of Industry and Commerce and general secretary of the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), made the disclosure yesterday during the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

Received the approval

Mr. Samuda told journalists that Prime Minister Bruce Golding had sought and received the approval of Cabinet to proceed with a date to call the local government elections.
