The Gleaner has been reliably informed that attorney-at-law, Professor Stephen Vasciannie, has been recommended by the Public Service Commission to be the next Solicitor General.
The recommendation has been sent to Governor-General Professor Kenneth Hall.
However, questions are being raised in political and legal circles as to whether he is the most suitable applicant for the job because he does not practise in the courts.
The other applicants for the post were former Deputy Solicitor General Douglas Leys and Patrick Foster, Q.C., Deputy Solicitor General.
Vasciannie, who is a professor at the University of the West Indies, is a consultant in the Attorney-General's Department and holds the title of Deputy Solicitor General.
The resignation of Solicitor General Michael Hylton, Q.C. becomes effective today.
