FORMER CHAMPIONS Portmore United were held to a 1-1 draw by St. Georges in their fifth- round Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) contest at Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
It wasn't long after the start that Portmore got on the scoresheet when Richard Cousins unleashed a cracker from the left side of the 18-yard box.
Portmore continued to press for more goals but, despite having their way in the middle, St. Georges goalkeeper Anthoneil Williams did not have much to do as his defence had things under control. St. Georges created a few attacks of their own and in the 40th minute were awarded a penalty when Adrian Reid brought down Damion Harwood in the box.
Brissett, who took the penalty, had to do so twice as referee Courtney Campbell indicated for him to retake the kick but, again, he beat Dwayne Kerr.
In the second half, the ball spent most of the time in midfield as referee Campbell created the highlights.
Second yellow card
Campbell issued a second yellow card to St. Georges' Omar Henderson in the 85th minute but after doing the same to Danian Reid, he found out he was mistaken.
Reid, who was surprised to see the red coming after the yellow, argued that it was his first yellow but, his pleas were not taken into consideration until the fourth official backed him up.
Overall, St. Georges coach Donovan Dukie was pleased with the point.
"Coming off two defeats against August Town and Seba where we gave up two soft goals in five minutes, we definitely knew we needed a result and this will definitely help our confidence," Dukie said.
Linval Dixon, Portmore United's coach, blamed poor shooting for his team not claiming maximum points.
"Faulty shooting in front of goal really cost us. If we had put away our chances in the first half, then we would not have made it a game," Dixon said.
