Beenie a wanted man
published: Wednesday | October 24, 2007

Beenie Man

Resident Magistrate Owen Parkins yesterday issued a warrant for the immediate arrest of deejay Beenie Man after he failed to appear in the Civil Division of the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The deejay, whose real name is Moses Davis, was booked to appear before RM Parkins yesterday to answer to charges of tax evasion, due to his alleged failure to pay his income tax. RM Parkins, clearly upset by Beenie Man's failure to honour the court date, told the court "no one is above the law, not even me." He also wondered aloud how the deejay could miss a court date that was publicly mentioned on television and radio.

The 'Doctor' reportedly owes the Government $29.29 million in back taxes and $18.64 million in penalties, bringing the outstanding amount to $47.93 million. When he last appeared before the court, the deejay said he was not aware that he had outstanding payments and said his management team was responsible for such business.
