The Pick-9 proved elusive at Caymanas Park on Monday (Heroes Day) and there is a carryover of $1 million to tomorrow's meet.
This was due to a 14-1 upset by HELTA SKELTA (who is owned by popular DJ Cobra) in the eighth race and smart 2-y-o debutante HOMBRE at 8-1 in the 10th race over 1300 metres for the Hi-Pro Stables Choice Feeds Trophy.
The Super-6, on the other hand, starts anew after it was caught by seven punters, each receiving $138,642.50.
The Pick-9 embraces races two to 10, the Super-6 from five to 10. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a circular nine claiming race ($315,000-$295,000) in which the trio of DON'T STAY NAKED under leading jockey Omar Walker, HIGH GRADE and RAINBOW TRAIN are leading lights in a field of six.
The free-running DON'T STAY NAKED will no doubt be coming to make all, but if the persistent tardy starter HIGH GRADE, now down in class, decides to leave the gates promptly, then he could turn it into a procession.
A safer proposition in this small field is RAINBOW TRAIN who not only gets the ideal trip on this occasion, but has worked really well in preparation for the race. Significantly, RAINBOW TRAIN last won over the distance on March 31.
RED LION, returning from a 10-month absence fairly well trained, gets the nod over MARKET BRIDLE and BRITISH LA GENERAL in the sixth race over 1800 metres, while JADORE in the 7th, the recent winners ROMEZ and ISLA in the 8th and 9th races respectively, along with FLYING FIRETAIL in the nightpan, are other firm fancies in the Super-6.
