Guyana demolish the CCC
published: Friday | October 19, 2007

Guyana's Travis Dowlin ... blasted his way to a fine 119 against CCC yesterday. - File

GEORGETOWN, Guyana

(CMC):

TRAVIS DOWLIN hit his maiden regional one-day ton and shared in a century stand as Guyana defeated a depleted Combined Colleges and Campuses side by 99 runs at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence yesterday. It was Guyana's second successive win in the KFC Cup.

The 30-year-old Dowlin stroked 10 fours and four sixes in his chanceless 119 to take the man-of-the-match award and spur Guyana to an imposing 279 for eight off 50 overs, after being sent in.

Exhilarating shots

Without first-round centurion Floyd Reifer and Jason Parris out because of injury, the CCC fell for 180 in 45.5 overs despite an intelligent unbeaten 37 from Ramnarine Chattergoon and 38 from Rommell Currency.

Guyana have already qualified for the semi-finals even if they lose to Trinidad and Tobago in their final-round game tomorrow.

Dowlin played several exhilarating shots especially after he passed his third score above fifty at this level to justify the ploy to use him as Sewnarine Chattergoon's opening partnership on a slow track and immaculate outfield.

The hosts were given a solid foundation as the openers put together 113 before Chattergoon was leg before to a quick delivery from left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh for 46, when four away from his seventh half-century at this level.

Chattergoon, who counted six fours and a six in his 70-ball innings, played the supporting role as Guyana stamped their dominance from early.

Ramnaresh Sarwan joined Dowlin to entertain a small crowd of mostly school children, with an array of delightful shots.

Three boundaries

Guyana galloped to 192 on the lightning fast field before Sarwan was bowled by skipper Shirley Clarke after reaching the ropes three times in his 42-ball 38.

Deonarine and Dowlin added another 58 for the third wicket before Deonarine edged a catch to the keeper off Craig Emmanuel at 250 for three in the 46th over. His cameo 22-ball 27 was decorated with three boundaries.
