WESTERN BUREAU:
CORNWALL COLLEGE and St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) joined the teams that have qualified for the inter-zone round of the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup yesterday when they scored 3-1 and 2-0 victories over Anchovy and Maggotty, respectively.
In their Zone A fixture against Anchovy at Jarrett Park, Cornwall College - who played without inspirational captain Edward Campbell due to an accumulation of yellow cards - got their goals through striker Radcliffe Hall and the versatile Jason King. Their win lifted them to 21 points.
Qualifiers
"This was one of the miles-tones we set ourselves and the start of the season, so we must credit the boys for a job well done," said Dr. Dean Weatherly, the coach of the Cornwall College team. "We are now looking to the inter-zone with much optimism."
In their Zone E fixture, the Kurt Brooks-coached STETHS joined zone leaders Munro College as the group's inter-zone qualifiers as a double strike by Derval Green was enough to give them the maximum three points against the Maggotty team. Munro defeated Black River 2-0 to extent their points tally to 25 points.
"We are pleased to be in the inter-zone as we have not been doing as well as we had expected this season," said Brooks. "We are looking at improving our game in the inter-zone."
