Glenmuir score big 6-0 win over Bustamante
published: Wednesday | October 17, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

CHAMPIONS GLENMUIR strengthened their bid for a place in the inter-zone round of the ISSA/Pepsi/daCosta Cup yesterday when they scored a big 6-0 win over Bustamante in their crucial Zone I fixture at home in Clarendon.

By virtue of their win, Jackie Walters-coached Glenmuir have moved up to 17 points which puts them a comfortable five points clear of third-placed Old Harbour, who went down 1-0 to group leaders Garvey Maceo (20), who are now safely into the inter-zone round.

The Glenmuir team, which has one outstanding game in addition to two other scheduled games, just needs to secure another three points from those encounters to book its inter-zone place. Glenmuir are also still in with a chance of copping the group's lone Ben Francis Knockout slot.

Took a nose-dive

Over in Zone E, former zone kingpins St. Elizabeth Technical High School's (STETHS) inter-zone aspirations took a nose-dive when they suffered a shock 3-1 loss to the improving Lacovia on their home turf in Santa Cruz.

With Munro already assured of one of the group's two inter-zone places, the battle for the other place is expected to produce an epic battle with STETHS (15), Lacovia (10) and Black River (10) still in the hunt. Lacovia have an outstanding game.

"Today's defeat has set us back in a big way," said a disappointed STETHS coach, Kurt Brooks. "It is going be a very tough battle for us to advance from our current position."

In Zone A, Cornwall College marched into the inter-zone round in fine style when they completed their second super derby win in four days over Herbert Morrison, clipping them 1-0, courtesy of a Radcliffe Hall strike in their game at Bogue in Montego Bay.
