T&T manager keen on 'intelligent' cricket
published: Monday | October 15, 2007

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC)

Trinidad and Tobago team manager, Omar Khan, has called on his players to play intelligent cricket, in order to maintain their seven-match unbeaten run and retain their KFC Cup regional limited overs title.

"I have asked all the players to just go out there and play intelligent and professional cricket," said Khan, speaking to CMC Sports prior to the team's departure for Guyana Saturday.

Success

"Cricket is a head game and if the players lose their heads, then they would not get the success they want.

"We have already formulated plans for getting to where we want and the guys must play intelligent cricket to be able to execute the plans."

Khan said the fielding and bowling of the national players would hold the key to their success.

"Our out-cricket is going to be integral to our success. The bowlers will have to bowl well and must be backed up by good fielding," Khan explained.

"The batting is in good hands but even if the batters post a small score, we must be able to go out there and defend that with good out-cricket."

Trinidad and Tobago come up against the Combined Campuses and Colleges in their first match of the tournament tomorrow and will also face the Windward Islands and Guyana in preliminary round matches. Khan said despite the youthfulness of the CCC team, T&T would not underestimate them, as they were treating all their opposition with equal seriousness.

"Some people say that the CCC is under-strength for this type of competition but I think they would be coming out to prove a point and could very well be dangerous on their day," he noted.

"My players are not going to take anything for granted, and we are going to play all matches with a business sense in mind.

"Cricket is like a business and you run business to make profit. Our profit is winning matches and this we intend to do. Last year we won all seven matches and we intend to build on this winning streak."
