THE EDITOR, Sir:
The election season is often referred to as the silly season. It seems that some of us are so caught up with it that we do not realise that it has come to an end, particularly if the party we support did not win.
Since the election, the Rev. Devon Dick seems to have taken a greater interest in matters of governance. His first matter was the allegiance issue: According to the good minister - you can't swear allegiance elsewhere and be loyal to Jamaica. What nonsense from a pastor. At no point did he question the motives of those who raised the issue at the time they did.
Now the good minister is accusing Ministers Shaw and Samuda of lying without producing good evidence. The quotes from the tape referred to have not stated the words giving the commitment to double any one's salary.
What was said?
The words: "I would like to give the commitment that as Minister of Finance that would be the starting point" do not in themselves say, I will double your salary. It is clear that Shaw said something else before he got to this point. Can the minister tell us what was said?
I am of the view that those who are leaders of the church should focus on the life and teaching of Jesus. He said on one occasion - "Let him that has no sin cast the first stone."
And on another - "Cast out the beam out of thine own eyes then you will see clearly to cast the mote out of your brother's eye."
"Father forgive them for they know not what they do."
Think on these things, Rev. Dick.
I am, etc.,
