Deejays Rohan and David are the two left standing in the Heineken Green Synergy DJ competition, and on Friday, had one of their final chances to convince voters in Portmore, St. Catherine.

Country finals are slated for this Saturday at the Mas Camp Village, New Kingston.

The Heineken Green Synergy road show moved into Ken's Wildflower bringing with it much excitement and great entertainment.

Along with the two finalists, the event featured musical stylings courtesy of former competitor, DJ Khemist and the sound system, Area Code.

When DJ Rohan took the stage he failed to adequately impress. Starting some hip hop selections, he then touched several genres, including R&B before returning to hip hop with Mark Morrison's Return of the Mack and ended with Wickerman's hit on the Duwali rhythm, Gungo Walk. His introduction and movements between songs and genres were anything, but smooth and he never grabbed hold of a theme or idea and held on to it.

Speakers

The deejays worked toward the back of the enormous stage, which boasted large speakers that boomed out the music to miles around.

In addition, large pictures of the two finalists, with the voting information were displayed on two very large flat screen monitors, one to each side of the stage.

People circled the venue in rows of various depths, some standing, listening and loudly indicating their approval when warranted, while others danced.

Each set from a DJ was followed by giveaways. Patrons who bought bucket deals all received numbered tickets, which afforded the lucky ones cash prizes of up to $2500 or tickets to the finals of the competition.

MC Michael Williams announced the give-aways, with the winners picked from a bucket and read by Frederique Asberg, Heineken senior brand manager, and the Jamaica Green Synergy country manager.

After some more giveaways, DJ David took the wheels of steel and was strong from the get-go with the Junior Reid and The Game hip-hop/dancehall synthesis It's Okay (One Blood) and kept going well. His selections were met with cheers, especially from the women, and they danced vigorously to songs from Mavado, Queen Ifrica and Assassin's Nuh Mek Mi Hol' Yuh before he left the stage.

Area Code, who kept the crowd entertained into the wee hours of the morning, began by asking for silence, a dimming of the lights and playing a recorded version of the national anthem.

Sing-along

Some people in the crowd sang along, while others provided what they felt was the obligatory 'Boom!'. Then in response to the selections of Area Code, three young men started to do synchronised dancing at one section of the venue, moving mostly in unison to the beats and attracting attention and even a video camera at one point.

Green Synergy Country Manager Frederique Asberg said that over 55,000 votes had been received in the Green Synergy competition to date. The Jamaican leg of the finals will be held on Saturday, October 6, with the winner going on to take part in the Caribbean regional finals, which will pit him against 12 other competitors from around the region. For the first time in the competition's history, the regional finals will be held in Jamaica.
