Glenmuir on the prowl
published: Tuesday | October 2, 2007

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Champions Glenmuir, fresh from Saturday's 12-0 mauling of Tacius Golding in their Zone I ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup fixture, will be on the prowl once again this afternoon when they take on the struggling Bustamante in one of 10 scheduled games.

Glenmuir, joint second in their group with Old Harbour on nine points each, could retake the lead today if they win and group leader Garvey Maceo (10) fail to come away with maximum three points from their clash with Old Harbour.

"Today we played much better than when we lost 0-1 to Garvey Maceo," said Glenmuir's coach Jackie Walters, after Saturday's win against Tacius Golding. "The players now realise that we cannot be complacent because the other teams are coming to get us."

However, should Garvey Maceo report in the type of form they showed in handing Glenmuir their first zonal defeat in five years, it would be difficult for them to lose to Old Harbour. On the other hand, a repeat of Saturday's 1-1 showing against Central, could be a recipe for defeat.

The top of the table Zone K showdown between the unbeaten Brimmervale (12) and second place St. Mary Technical (9) should be cracker as both teams have been showing decent offensive form, scoring a total of 21 goals between them - St. Mary Technical 12 and Brimmervale 9.

With three wins and three draws in their six games, the Brimmervale team should start slight favourites. However, with the superior goalscoring record, St. Mary Technical, with two wins, two draws and a defeat in six games, have good reason to be very confident.

Annotto Bay and Oracabessa (eight points apiece), who are in joint third place in the group behind Brimmervale and St. Mary Technical, should also been gunning to improve their lot. Annotto Bay will battle Iona (6), while Oracabessa will oppose Islington (4).

Over in Zone L (b), despite only managing a close 1-0 win over the struggling Morant Bay on Saturday, the dangerous-looking Seaforth, with three wins and a draw from four outings, should get the better of third place Yallahs (7) and consolidate their position atop the group standings.
