PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Police are investigating the death of one of their colleagues who was chopped to death as he lay asleep on his bed in Barrackpore in south Trinidad on Sunday.

Police said that they have since held a 77-year-old pensioner in connection with the death of 54-year-old Constable Tickchand Soondar, who was chopped several times about the neck, hands and leg.

Soondar was expected to retire from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on October 20 after 33 years service.
