A second term for Myers
published: Sunday | September 30, 2007

Mark Myers, managing director of KFC operators, Restaurants of Jamaica, was re-elected president of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, Thursday at the association's annual general meeting.

Myers promised that his second term would continue to lobby aggressively for the easing of the bureaucracy that has hampered, he said, the growth of the private sector but indicated a willingness to collaborate with the new administration.

"We are heartened by the policies now being put in place by Government to encourage entrepreneurship," he said.

He cited as a positive signal, the announcement last week by Finance Minister Audley Shaw that transfer tax on real-estate transactions would be abolished and stamp duty reduced.

"Such a move can only see an increase in the level of investments from both local and international investors, with the resultant creation of jobs," the JCC president said.

Executive body includes

His executive includes first vice- president Ed Khoury, managing director of the Jamaica Observer newspaper; second vice-president Francis 'Paco' Kennedy; third vice-president, Milton Samuda, a partner at the law firm Myers Fletcher & Gordon; and fourth vice-president, Lyndon Williams, who replaces Millicent Lynch. Other members of the new board are Peter Graham, Glen Christian, Michael G. Ammar and Basil Naar.
