The Church and corruption
published: Thursday | September 27, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

In a country where we have a church every square mile, only five per cent of Jamaicans see corruption as a real issue. This is really very frightening! The Church more than ever was strongly represented during the past administration. The prophets were at their best speaking on behalf of God, even though God knew nothing of what they were saying.

What is strange, however, is that the Church and the prophets have been extremely quiet on the issue of corruption and injustice. what an oversight!

True prophets were ridiculed and met their deaths at the hands of kings because they dared to denounce the corruption in their kingdom. John the Baptist was a perfect example. he got his head chopped off because he rebuked the king for keeping his brother's wife. Mark 6-17-29.

The Church should put on a special forum on corruption. In this forum the Church must itemise corruption in its various forms, identifying how we have contri-buted to the problem, and not just the so-called few criminals who are plaguing the society.

I am, etc.,

JOY FRASER
