A man's facial hair is a natural accessory that allows him to try different looks without much risk.

Facial-hair styles are the 'centrepiece' of a man's look, so he should ensure that it suits his profession and image.

There are many existing facial-hair styles, so Flair sat down with Jimmy Jackson of Shaun's Barbers and Stylists in the Village Plaza to get the 101 on the most popular styles.

"A lot of them (facial-hair styles) exist, but the most popular ones are: the Elvis Presley (sideburns only); the full beard; the goatee; the moustache; and the g-string (thin sideburns that join a goatee at the chin)," Jimmy explained.

G-string

Younger men prefer the g-string, while older men lean towards the moustache, full beard or a clean shave, he pointed out.

But, while all these styles are great, men need to take their facial shape into consideration before deciding on a style.

For a man with a round face to get a professional look, Jackson says, "I would suggest a goatee. This gives the face length."

Men who have an oval shaped face should "wear a low full beard with a line under the neck and lines at the extreme sides of the face. This create"" an experienced Jimmy told Flair.

Another style that gives the appearance of width is the g-string. This style is suitable for the oblong face.

A man with a clean shave has the image of a distinguished gentleman. According to Jimmy, a moustache gives the same effect.

Some young professional men who want to create a more mature look can try a goatee or a well-groomed full beard.

Here are some sample facial-hair designs to help you chose your desired look.
