WESTERN BUREAU:

Before stepping on to a capacious balcony which boasts a view of verdant vegetation, guests were greeted by stewards who offered some of the most scrumptious hors d'oeuvres this side of reality!

As the night wore on, a good start metamorphosed into the best entertainment patrons could ask for, as they were wined and dined in fine style at the Ritz-Carlton on Wednesday night.

In an attempt to sell Jamaica more effectively, the Jamaica Tourist Board, the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and Air Jamaica launched a spectacular initiative which saw 77 travel agents from 10 United States gateways visiting the country to sample the first-class upgraded products that Jamaica now boasts.

Four exotic days and three exciting nights culminated in a final night function at the ritzy Rose Hall resort. It climaxed an unforgettable mini trade show and welcome presentation at the Half Moon Conference Centre last Tuesday morning.

evening's highlights

Highlights included: the best of the island's attractions; dining at some of the most renowned restaurants; while enjoying some of the country's most noted - the Half Moon, Iberostar, Sandals Montego Bay and the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort.

On Wednesday night, these agents sauntered around the Ritz Carlton terrace meeting and greeting each other while they feasted on delicious jerked chicken, shrimp and ackee and saltfish on toasted pointe, to name a few. Red and white wines, mixed drinks and martinis were savoured while patrons were entertained by the sounds of the Phase One Band which played exquisite steel pan music.

Guests unwillingly left the balcony of the terrace, but they were not to be disappointed as they were escorted to an opulent ballroom. Here they were delighted with delectable dishes of all varieties which left them craving more.

Dessert was to die for! Ambrosial chocolate cake, biscotti and baked rice pudding were among the decadent choices that were enough to turn saints into sinners!

Westmoreland's Hartford Group brought patrons back to days of yore as their mellow music coerced patrons out of their seats on to the dance floor. Bending down low became automatic and 'wining' the waistline a pastime to a myriad of folklore hits.

The West Indian Dance Troupe took charge before long, and guests limboed the night away.
