New 'prophet' in town
published: Sunday | September 23, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

So far, my predictions of the election have come to pass: Bruce has won and Portia is Jamaica's second-shortest-serving Prime Minister! I can proudly say I have 'out-prophesied' the great Dr. Phinn. Mrs. Simpson Miller, if you are looking for a prophet to replace Dr. Phinn, I am available!

In the meantime, as your newly self-appointed prophet, I would strongly suggest that you meet Bruce halfway. He gave a very statesman-like speech after his narrow victory; he has extended his hand to the PNP and he is looking for consensus from among politicians from both sides.

This bodes well for Jamaica. You, Portia, on the other hand, did not do what was expected of a leader: Concede! Even if you have issues with the results, remember, it's the people's wishes that come first, not yours.

Congrats, my friend Bruce! You have done a marvellous job and since I know what you are capable of personally, I am predicting that you will do a marvellous job as Jamaica's eighth Prime Minister. Please continue with the tone that you started with in your after-election speech and I promise you that in the next election, your margin will be even greater!

I am, etc.,

MICHAEL 'Prophet' ORRETT
