Frome comes alive with Raynor King Memorial Stages rally

Veteran rally driver Raynor King, who died almost 10 years ago, during a freak accident in his hometown of Montego Bay, St. James, will be remembered today, as members of the motor racing fraternity are expected to turn out in droves for the Digicel/Shell Raynor King Memorial Stages rally, which will be run in his honour.

"Raynor King was an icon of the sport. He was a serious competitor, very vocal at meetings. You called him the club's politician, always questioning you on a point of order," said Errol Anderson, president of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club.

This is the third in the five-event Jamaican National Rally Championship series, in the cane fields of the Jamaica Sugar Company at Frome, Georges Plain, Westmoreland.

"The stages will be very fast and people will get an opportunity to display their top speed," the JMMC president said.He believes the winner should come from Gary Gregg, Doug Gore or Richie Rerrie.

this year's line-up

According to Dean Corrudus, this year's line-up should be very interesting across the board, as the new Team Xpress Racing Honda Civic with Raj 'Tarmac Terrorist' Jadusingh and David 'Stinger' Anderson on board will have its debut rally outing, going up against the likes of Tarik Minott/Peter Clarke in the Miphone Suzuki Ignis, Bobby Marshal/Daneisha Green in the Singer/Motor Sales & Service Ltd/TGIF Mitsubishi Mirage RS, Pernell Fitz-Coy/Dean Corrodus in the Team MoBay Racing Toyota Corolla FX, and a slew of newcomers and veterans in different cars.

Other competitors include Leroy Spence and Terri Ann Chung in a Honda CRX, Richard Chan and Ivan Lee in a turbo-charged rear-wheel drive Toyota Corolla GTS, Jordan Powell and Gina Tomlinson in the Jamspeed Adrenline Rush TV Toyota Starlet.
