A scene from the 1957 Kendal train crash. - file
The following are feedback letters to yesterday's publication of Roving with Lalah.
Dear Robert,
I have to thank you for that story about the Kendal crash. I once lived in Kendal and never came across people like Mr. Harvey to get such a close insight into what it was like. I hope all those people will be resurrected to a better life one day.
I especially appreciated the way you used discernment wisely and stopped the interview when Mr. Harvey was getting overwhelmed. That was very kind of you and selfless. It shows that you care more about people than getting a story in the papers. I truly appreciated this article.

Dear Robert,
I read your interview with Mr. Robinson who talked about the Kendal train crash. As I read your column, my eyes filled with tears. I grew up in Manchester and never realised the enormity of the crash until now. I always hear about it, but never actually got a full story or read up on it. I think you have a wonderful job and you are doing excellent work. I wish Mr. Harvey well.

Dear Robert,
As a survivor of the crash, I am surprised that 50 years later nothing has been done to recognise the survivors. I am 69 years old now, but I was there on that fateful Sunday night. Most countries would recognise 50 years as a milestone and probably have some sort of ceremony or remembrance. But then again, that's Jamaica for you. Anyway, thanks for your article. Dear old Harvey helped, but he did not experience the horror of the crash.

Dear Robert,
Thanks for a very informative article. I am 21 years old and I have no knowledge of that incident. I think that, as Jamaicans, we do not learn enough about our recent history. A tragedy like that is something we should observe and remember each year.
