THE JAMAICA Public Service Company Ltd. (JPS) says the police have so far made two arrests in relation to individuals who have stolen the utility provider's power lines and cables.
According to Ruthlyn Johnson, communications manager at JPS, the light and power company continues to work closely with the police to investigate suspected cases of stolen JPS property.
"We also get calls from members of the public providing information on cases of theft," Mrs. Johnson told The Gleaner. "So far, two persons have been arrested and JPS has recovered stolen property from these individuals."
The company is advising individuals who have stolen or are planning to purchase stolen JPS property that this is a criminal activity and that they will be prosecuted.
Up to the start of this week, JPS said there were still fewer than 300 customers without electricity.
There are a few communities in rural St. Andrew and St. Catherine that have not had their power restored since the passage of Hurricane Dean on August 19. The company, however, said it expects that power supply should be restored to these communities by Sunday.
