The Editor, Sir:
The Letter to the Editor by Ken Jones which made the front page of The Gleaner on Tuesday, Sept 18, was quite an eye opener and I commend the newspaper for giving it the prominence it deservingly got.
I had some initial concerns about the Cabinet size but if this new Cabinet composition will not require the propping up by the huge bag of so-called 'consultants' and hangers-on then it would be more than a blessing for the nation. It's shocking to see that those 'consultants' under the recent PNP administration have cost us over five times that of the new Cabinet for salaries per year.
Critical fact
I appreciate Jones' research and exposure of the real cost comparison of salaries for the old and new administrations, which is a critical fact which is being overlooked in the scheme of things.
We now need the list and salaries of the new consultants under this new JLP administration.
I'd rather have this 18-member Cabinet with less 'consultants' than the reverse (which prevailed in the past).
I am, etc.,
PETER TOWNSEND
