The Editor, Sir:I am a Jamaican teacher plying his trade in the US. It is indeed an 'eye-opener' for me as I realise that much of what we spend valuable time on back home is really trivial. The issue of the Jamaica Labour Party's victory should not be a hard one for my party, the People's National Party to take. If we are to be fair and just we must admit that we have had governance for a very long time and had become complacent. History itself dictated that there be a change. It is of utmost importance that we realise that it is Jamaica that we should champion and not party.
It took me a month outside of my country to appreciate home. We need to develop a mindset among our children where love for country, our people is foremost. Jamaica, albeit small in size is well known and respected. I've had people come up to me begging me to speak 'Jamaican', among other things. If we really love our country, let us admit the obvious and work with the government of the day and make home the paradise it truly is.
I am, etc.,
