Double Bow fancied in the 9th

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 were caught at Caymanas Park start on Wednesday and start anew with guaranteed minimums.

The Pick-9, embracing races three to 11, starts anew with $1 million. The Super-6 commences with $500,000 and will be conducted from race six through to 11. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a 4-y-o and up maiden condition race over the straight five course in which LEAVE ME ALONE looks best of a bad lot.

The four-year-old gelding is down to be ridden by the sparingly used jockey Nikito Griffiths for owner/trainer Gary Griffiths, brothers of leading all-time jockey Winston 'Fanna' Griffiths.

LEAVE ME ALONE has proven competitive in recent races, finishing a close third to DUE PROCESS over 1400 metres as recent as last Saturday after leading into the straight with Nikito aboard.

Prior to that on August 4 she was 3 1/4 lengths third to SPLINTER MAGIC and DUE PROCESS over this trip and on the strength of that performance, should win (at last) from BLUFF MASTER and IT'S ABOUT TIME.

Straight fight

The seventh race over 1600 metres (claiming $380,000-$350,000) looks a straight fight between the recent winners ALL FIRED UP and POLISH MARKET, both very fit. The Robert Darby Sr-trained ALL FIRED UP steps down in class in a bid for the hat-trick following her narrow win over SIR KHAN in the J.W. 'Judge' Hardie Memorial Cup over this trip on August 11.

Although expected to start favourite in her bid for the hat-trick, ALL FIRED UP could fall victim to POLISH MARKET who on July 28 was beaten only two lengths into fifth race (running on) by HOOKEDONJAZZ over 1500 metres in overnight allowance company.

One of the more open races on the card is the eighth (non winners of three) over 2000 metres. The main hopefuls are recent winner MITAKA, AITCHEMESBEAGLE, ABSOLUTE POWER, HEY TRAIN, SPECIAL CAT and POORLITTLERICHBOY.

MITAKA scored impressively over 1300 metres on August 29, an having risen appreciably in the weights, will only go down fighting.

The late kicking ABSOLUTE STORMER truly enjoys a distance of ground and his final rattle could take him close, while the same is true of both POORLITTLERICHBOY and the Wayne DaCosta-trained AITCHEMESBEAGLE who has trained well for this race. I give the edge to AITCHEMESBEAGLE. but POORLITTLERICHBOY looks a big danger. Briefly, the speedy DOUBLE BOW, now dropped in class, is preferred to ALNASKRA and ASKAWOMAN in the ninth for overnight allowance horses, while down-in-class MIRACLE MAN looks hard to oppose in the 10th for the Owen Silvera Memorial Cup over 1600 metres, despite the presence of St. Leger winner RUM TALK in the seven-strong field.

Then, take the consistent free-running colt MR. BUTCHER to stave off SLOGAN and SPECIAL K in the 11th and final race.
