LUCAS, ST. THOMAS and Manchester booked their places in the quarter-finals of the All-island limited overs competition following fifth-round victories, yesterday.
They join St. Elizabeth, Portland, Melbourne, the JDF and Police to complete the final eight.
AT CHEDWIN PARK: St. Thomas defeated St. Catherine Cricket Club by four wickets.
St. Catherine won the toss and chose to take strike and were bowled out for 238 in 50 overs. Dean Morgan led the way with 66 and received solid support from teammates André Bruce (26) and Keith Hibbert (24), while Steve Logan claimed 4-43 for the visitors.
In reply, St. Thomas reached 240 for six in 45.3 overs. Oniel Wright (94) and Marvin Darlington (45) were the leading scorers for St. Thomas. André Russell was the pick of the hosts' bowlers with 2-46.
John Gordon, the coach of St. Thomas, was delighted with his team's victory.
"I am very satisfied because they did very well today," said Gordon. "However, our fielding was a bit poor ... we dropped a few catches, but our spinners came on and did a real good job for us. We are going to be playing Manchester in the quarter-finals and I am expecting a very tough game from them.
"My team is very young and inexperienced, and Manchester have won this competition before and they are also one the top sides in the country now."
AT ALLAN RAE OVAL: Lucas beat Westmoreland by four wickets. Westmoreland batted first and made 245 for nine in 48.3 overs. André Andrews led the way with 55 and received support from Adrian Thompson (54). Rensford Merchant (3-30) and Dwayne Geoffrey (2-51) were the best of the home-team's bowlers.
In reply, Lucas reached 246 for six in 48.2 overs. Wayne Gayle (69), Kevin Murray (34) and Maurice Clarke (28) were the leading scorers.
EASY VICTORY
AT COLLIE SMITH DRIVE: Defending champions Kensington defeated Boys' Town by 51 runs. Kensington made 158 all out in 38.3 overs. Royan Francis (31) and Gerald Laing (25) were the leading rungetters for the visitors, while Herbert Haye claimed 4-44.
Boys' Town were then bowled out for 107 in 28.4 overs, with Peter Colquhoun claiming 5-29 and Francis 3-5.
AT MAXFIELD PARK: Manchester beat Kingston and St. Andrew by seven wickets. Kingston and St. Andrew won the toss, opted to bat and were bowled out 118 in 32.1 overs, with Donovan Sinclair taking 4-28 and David Powell 2-20.
In reply, Manchester reached 119 for three in 27.1 overs. Donovan Sinclair (64 not out) and Matthew Sinclair (25) saw their team to an easy victory.
AT JARRETT PARK: Hosts St. James defeated Kingston by six wickets. Kingston won the toss, batted and were dismissed for a mere 80 in 26 overs, with Sean Edwards claiming 4-22 and Ricardo Scott 2-3.
Chasing the small target, St. James reached 84 for four in 24.2 overs. Scott made 33 and captain Dwight Washington 18 not out.
