They can hardly walk. One was assisted by two neighbours and the other had a walking stick. But this could not have stopped septuagenarians George Mais and Alice Ramsay from going out yesterday to cast their ballots.

"From mi a young boy till now mi a vote. From Manley days, so mi did haffi come out dis morning, even though the foot not so good," said Mais. "Mi always like mark mi X, especially when you party on the line," said the 73-year-old, who resides in Windso Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

He voted at the White Marl Primary and Junior High School. The process, he said, took him about an hour. He was uncertain how he was getting back home, but he said as long as he exercised his franchise, he was fine.

Meanwhile, Ramsay, who is also 73 years old, said nothing could prevent her from going out to vote. "I have been voting over the years and so I decided to come out again this morning," said Ramsay.

She was assisted by two neighbours who took her to the José Martí High School to vote. "Dem did so quick to come for me and a bet if God was coming, dem wouldn't come for mi so quick," she joked.
