Although electricity was yet to be restored at Caymanas Park yesterday morning when nominations for tomorrow's race meet were taken, support for the meeting was described as extemely good by CTL's racing secretary Denzil Miller Jr.
Miller disclosed that 12 races are being offered and with a Pick-9 carryover of $6.3 million up for grabs, heavy betting should be the order of the day.
The card will facilitate three trophy races, including the open allowance feature for the Nigel B. Nunes Memorial Trophy to be contested by eight starters over the circular nine course.
Also on the card is Race No. 2 in the second CTL Claiming series ($210,000 and less) over 1600 metres in which 10 have been declared and the Keeling Memorial Cup for native and imported two-year-olds over 1100 metres to be contested by six starters.
Request to JPS
When quizzed about the unavailability of power so close to the scheduled race meet, Miller said "we are working on it".
A source close to CTL said a special request has been made by the CEO of CTL, Walford Brown, to the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited for restoration of electricity to the racing complex in the wake of Hurricane Dean nine days ago.
However, Jamaica Racehorse Trainers' Association president Vin Edwards warned that if power is not restored to the plant by this evening, the meet could be called off.
"In the likelihood that power does not return by tomorrow (Tuesday) evening the meet could be in danger and not take place," Edwards warned.
